Lorenz Duftschmid

Lorenz Duftschmid (* 1964 in Linz) is an Austrian viol player and conductor in the field of historical performance practice.

Life

In a musical family, born Lorenz Duftschmid started early with his musical training. He did his schooling at the music high school in Linz and studied at the Bruckner Conservatory in his hometown. Already in his student days, he founded the early music ensemble " Ars Antiqua" and " Consortium Musicum ". Lorenz Duftschmid then studied in the class of gamba Jordi Savall at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. Duftschmid is head of the Austrian ensemble " Armonico Tributo Austria ", with whom he also made ​​numerous recordings. Since 2004 he is a professor of viola da gamba at the Art University of Graz. In the same year he was co-founder of the musical notes and CD publishing " AnLeut ". He teaches viola da gamba at the Academy of Music Trossingen and took over 2009 the management of the Institute of Ancient Music this university.

Lorenz Duftschmid is a direct descendant of the Austrian physician and naturalist Caspar Erasmus Duftschmid (1767-1821) and Dr. Johann Baptist Duftschmid ( 1804-1866 ).
