Louis Brody

Louis Brody; actually Ludwig M'bebe Mpessa (* February 15, 1892 in Douala, Cameroon German colony, † February 11, 1951 in Berlin) was a German actor.

Life

At the age of 15 years, Louis Brody came from the former German " reserve" Cameroon to Germany. His first appearance was at the age of 23 years under the direction of Joe May in the Joe Deebs detective series in the episode The law of mine. May also employed him in several parts of the successful exotic adventure film series The mistress of the world.

The transition from the Weimar Republic to the Nazi era drew amazingly, no break in his career after, on the contrary. The Nazis needed for their colonial films black performers, so Brody, though otherwise disadvantaged in Germany, 100 per day of shooting Reichsmark earned (400 euros ). This corresponded to approximately half the monthly salary of a top earner.

In 1938 he married the black Danzig Erika Diekmann, with whom he had a daughter.

In the anti-Semitic film Jud Suss he played under Veit Harlan the black servant of the Duke.

The end of National Socialism he experienced in Berlin. Then he went to the DEFA, he made his last film appearance in Antifa - adventure film The Last Heuer.

Louis Brody died on 11 February 1951 in Berlin and was buried in the cemetery Berlin- Hohenschonhausen.
