Louis de Luxembourg, Count of Saint-Pol

Ludwig I of Luxembourg (franz: Louis I. de Luxembourg, * 1418, † December 19, 1475 in Paris) was a Constable of France from 1465 to 1475, he was the son of Peter of Luxembourg, Count of Saint-Pol, . and Margaret of Baux. Furthermore, he was a nephew of Bishop Ludwig von Therouanne, Chancellor of France and Count Johann II of Ligny.

He inherited from his father the counties of Saint-Pol, Brienne and Conversano, from his uncle in 1441 the counties of Ligny and Guise, and the dominions of Enghien, Roussy and Beaurevoir.

Ludwig was a close ally of Count Charles of Charolais ( Charles the Bold ), and with him was one of the military leaders of the Ligue du Bien public. He struggled in 1465 with the Battle of Montlhery against King Louis XI. , But to which he defected shortly thereafter. On October 5, 1465, he was appointed Constable of France, from 1466 to 1473 he was governor and deputy of the King ( lieutenant du roi ) in Normandy, then in Picardy. Ludwig's personal ambitions and his lack of loyal behavior aroused the king's suspicions. From the Duke of Burgundy in 1475, he was delivered to the king, who accused him of high treason, convicted, and on December 19, 1475 on the Place de Grève in Paris were decapitated.

Ludwig married on July 16, 1435 at Château de Bohain first wife Joan of Bar, Countess of Marle and Soissons, daughter of Robert of Bar, the skipped grandson of Duke Robert I of Bar, with whom he had seven children:
