Louis Florentin Calmeil

Louis Florentin Calmeil (* 1798, † 1895) was a French physician, psychiatrist and medical historian. He looked at Charenton, where he was a pupil and successor as head physician Esquirol.

De la Folie

His work De la Folie (About the delusion ) that explicitly devoted to the history of psychiatry, translated and edited Rudolf Leubuscher in a highly abridged edition, The madness in the last four centuries under the title appeared (Hall Schwetschke, 1848).

It was written in a time when the hallucinations and illusions great attention has been paid in France. Calmeils book tells the story of the 15th-19th centuries and attempts to justify the phenomena rationally and devotes hundreds of pages of discussion of demonology, lycanthropy, religious obsession and similar abnormal conditions.
