Louis II, Count of Blois

Ludwig I of Châtillon (franz: Louis I de Châtillon; † August 26, 1346 at Crécy ) was a Count of Blois and Dunois and Lord of Avesnes out of the house Châtillon. He was a son of Count Guido I of Blois († 1342 ), and of Margaret of Valois, sister of King Philip VI. of France. His brother was Charles of Blois, the pretender to the Duchy of Brittany.

Ludwig married in 1340 in Soissons, Jeanne d' Avesnes († 1350), Countess of Soissons and mistress of Chimay, a daughter of Jean d' Avesnes, Lord of Beaumont., Out of the house Avesnes. They had three sons:

  • Ludwig II († 1372 ), Count of Blois and Dunois
  • John II († 1381 ), Count of Blois and Dunois
  • Guido II († 1397 ), Count of Soissons, Blois and Dunois

Louis fought 26 August, 1346 at the Battle of Crécy, in which he was killed. His widow later married the Margrave William I of Namur.

Note

  • Ludwig I of Châtillon was the second of his name who served as Count of Blois. Before him Count Ludwig already ruled († 1205 ) from the House of Blois, but this is usually called without atomic number.
