John II, Count of Blois

John II of Châtillon (franz: Jean II de Châtillon, * 1345, † 1381 in Valenciennes ) was a Count of Blois and Dunois, lord of Avesnes, and Schoonhoven and Gouda out of the house Châtillon. He was given the marriage with Mechtild of funds in 1372 to contender for the title of duke of funds.

Life

He was a son of Count Louis I of Blois († 1346 ) and the Jeanne d' Avesnes († 1350), Countess of Soissons and mistress of Chimay, a daughter of Jean d' Avesnes, Lord of Beaumont, from the house of Avesnes.

In 1356 he inherited the vast estates of his grandfather, John of Beaumont, in Holland and Zeeland. These formed in the county of Holland were, a state within a state. He took a position of trust at the court of Albrecht of Bavaria, Count of Holland, a, of the 1359/60 and 1363/64 commissioned him with the administration of Holland and Zeeland.
