Louise du Pierry

Elisabeth Louise Félicité du Pierry, born Pourra de la Madeleine, also Dupiery or you Piery, (* 1746, † 1807 ) was a French astronomer in the Age of Enlightenment and the French Revolution.

You Pierry began in 1779 after meeting with Jérôme Lalande to deal with astronomy. They calculated eclipses and lunar orbit, tables of astronomical refraction of light (as a function of declination and right ascension for Paris) and the day and night lengths on the latitude of Béziers, where she was the successor of Nicole -Reine Lepaute as a member of the Academy of Béziers.

It is regarded as the first woman who taught in France at the University: in 1789 she gave at the Sorbonne astronomy courses ( Cours d' astronomy ouvert pour les dames et mis à leur portée ). 1790 Lalande her devoted his book Astronomy des Dames and described it is as an intellectual role model for women.

The year of her death is unknown, but according to the Lalande (1807 ).
