Louise Hollandine of the Palatinate

Luise Hollandine of the Palatinate ( born April 18, 1622 The Hague, † February 11, 1709 in the Cistercian convent Maubuisson ) was a princess of the Palatinate, titular Countess Palatine of the Rhine, 1664-1709 abbess of the monastery Maubuisson as well as a painter and engraver.

Life

Luise Hollandine was a daughter of the Elector Frederick V of the Palatinate (1596-1632) from his marriage to Elizabeth Stuart (1596-1662), daughter of King James I of England. Born after her parents' flight was the first of the children of exile in Holland, it was because the States-General took over the sponsorship, Hollandine called. The princess grew up in Leiden in the care of educators. After completing her education, she returned to the court of her mother in The Hague. Under their applicants was, among other things Elector of Brandenburg, Frederick William.

On December 19, 1657, she fled from Antwerp, where she had lived as only one of her siblings to her mother's side, to France, where she was taken by her aunt Henriette Marie. Like her brother Edward stepped over it in a Carmelite Convent to the Catholic faith. Connected with the escape, this led to the final break with her mother. She was abbess of the convent in 1664 Maubuisson, into which she had entered in 1659 and where they continue pursued painting by intercession of the French crown. Of the States General, they still received a grace salary for life and also Louis XIV continued her an annual pension of 6,000 livres from.
