Lucas Matthysse

Lucas Martin Matthysse ( born September 27, 1982 in Trelew, Chubut ) is an Argentine professional boxer and current world champion of the Interim WBC light welterweight.

He is the younger brother of professional boxer Walter Matthysse.

Amateur career

Matthysse was Argentine champion in 2000 and 2001 took part in the 11th World Championships in Belfast, where, however, he was defeated early in the second preliminary round József Gerebecz from Hungary. In August of the same year he also took part in the 5th Pan-American Championships in San Juan, where he took silver. He had defeated Eberto Medina from Ecuador and Marcos Costa from Brazil, before the Mexicans Jorge Padilla lost the final. In an international tournament in Cuba in December 2002, he also lost on points against the reigning world champion Diógenes Luna.

In February 2003 he won in Belém, the qualifying tournament to participate in the 14th Pan American Games in Santo Domingo. He suggested doing Luis Ramírez from Mexico 13:3, Breidis Prescott of Colombia 10:1 and again Marcos Costa from Brazil 7:6. In the games themselves, however, he had to concede defeat Breidis Prescott 13:15.

Professional career

In 2004, he began his professional career, winning his first 22 fights prematurely. He was Latin American in April 2006 Champion WBO Light Welterweight. On September 12, 2008 ended his fight against the Mexican Rogelio Castañeda wertungslos ( " no contest " ), as Castañeda had been injured by an accidental head butt and the fight so could not continue.

After five more victories, including co- successes against Luis Ernesto Jose ( 29-5 ), Florencio Castellano ( 16-3 ) and Vivian Harris ( 29-3 ), he received 6 November 2010 a battle for the North American championship title of WBO against Zab Judah, which was widely touted as the precipitation duel for a future world title fight. However, Matthysse lost the match after 12 rounds disputed by a narrow split decision ( split point decision), although he had Judah in the tenth round on the ground.

After following knockout win against DeMarcus Corley, he lost 25 June 2011 the double world champion Devon Alexander again scarce split decision. In addition, he had Alexander in the fourth round at the bottom. By co- victories against Sergio Priotti, Ángel Martínez ( 13-1) and Humberto Soto ( 58-7 ) won the right to challenge for the WBC World Championship in interime light welterweight against Ajose Olusegun ( 30-0 ). Matthysse won the fight in Las Vegas by Ko in the tenth round. On January 26, 2013, he defended the title by Ko in the first round against Mike Dallas Jr. ( 19-2 ), the Latin American masters of the WBO from California.

On May 18, 2013, defeated the reigning IBF world light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (31-1 ) by TKO in the third round, but lost on September 14th on points against Danny Garcia ( 26-0 ).
