Lucian Sănmărtean

Lucian Iulian Sânmărtean ( born March 13, 1980 in Bistrita ) is a Romanian football player. He is since the beginning of 2014 at Steaua Bucharest in the League 1 under contract.

Career

The career of Sânmărtean began in 1999 when Gloria Bistrita in his hometown when he on 24 April his first appearance in the top Romanian football league, the Divizia A (now League 1), arrived. After he had come in the season 1999/2000 on nine missions, he managed in the 2000 /01 season the leap to starting players and qualified with his club at the end of the season for the Intertoto Cup. He could repeat this success the following season, 2002, however, reached the third round where the club to the OSC Lille defeated.

At the end of the 2002/ 03 Sânmărtean was able to prove with his team to third place and qualify for participation in the UEFA Cup. At the beginning of 2007, he finally left the club and joined the Dutch first division club FC Utrecht. There, too, he could not prevail, and returned in August 2008 back to Gloria Bistrita. After initial difficulties, he fought his way to a place in the year 2009, and received into the winter break 2009/10 once again the opportunity to move to a top club, took him as the FC Vaslui under contract. With his new club, he reached the Romanian Cup final in 2010. During the season 2010/11 he is an integral part of the team.

Beginning of 2014 he moved to record champions Steaua Bucharest.

National

Sânmărtean played three games for the Romanian national team. He made his debut on 20 November 2002 in a friendly against Croatia, as coach Anghel Iordănescu sent him in the 59th minute for Adrian Ilie on the field. After two more missions in friendlies on his international career had already ended on 20 August 2003 with a brief appearance against Ukraine again.
