Ludwig Riess

Ludwig Riess ( born December 1, 1861 in German crown, † December 27, 1928 in Berlin) was a German historian.

In 1885 he received his doctorate in Berlin history of the franchise to the English Parliament in the Middle Ages.

In 1887, he moved to Japan and taught at the University of Tokyo. In 1902 he returned to Germany and taught at the University of Berlin. In his writings he dealt with the history of Great Britain and Japan.

Riess is considered students Leopold von Ranke.
