Luis Monti

Luis Felipe Monti ( born January 15, 1901 in Buenos Aires, Argentina; † 9 September 1983) was an Argentine- Italian football player.

Career

Luis Monti was a defensive midfielder, who was still called inside forward in the WM system and began his career at Boca Juniors. In 1924 he made ​​his debut in the Argentine national football team, with whom he 1927 Copa América, and in 1928 won the silver medal at the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. With Argentina, he reached the final, which he however lost against Uruguay with 2:4 at the Football World Cup 1930. Against France he had on July 15, 1930 scored the first World Cup goal of the Argentines.

In 1931 Monti moved from Argentina to Italy to Juventus. At Juve he won with the legendary team of Quinquennio d' Oro 1932-1935 four times in a row, the Italian championship. The success at Juventus led him into the Italian national football team. With Italy, he won on June 10, 1934, the Football World Cup 1934. He is the only player to reach a World Cup final for two nations. In November 1934 he took part in the legendary match against England, which went down in football history as the Battle of Highbury.
