Luka Žagar

Luka Žagar ( born June 25, 1978 in Ljubljana, SR Slovenia ) is a former Slovenian- Croatian professional ice hockey player who played in the Austrian Hockey League, among others, for the HK Jesenice and KHL Medveščak Zagreb during his active career from 1994 to 2010.

Career

Luka Žagar began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior section of the HDD Olimpija Ljubljana for the first team, he was active in the Slovenian Hockey League from 1994 to 1999. In each of his first five career years with his team he won it the title. Subsequently, the winger played two years for the city neighbors HK Slavija Ljubljana, before he returned to Olimpija. With the Brussels residents it was 2002, 2003 and 2004, again three times in a row champion. In parallel, he participated with his team at the multinational Inter league that you could win in the 2001/ 02 season.

From 2004 to 2008 Žagar stood at HK Jesenice under contract by which he also Slovenian champion in 2005, 2006 and 2008. He was also successful with the Slovenes in the Inter- League in 2005 and 2006. When winning the Inter League B group in 2007, he was, however, in any game on the ice. The playoffs of the Slovenian League in the 2006/07 season he finished also with his former club HK Slavija Ljubljana. For the 2008/09 season, the Slovenian national team joined the KHL Medveščak Zagreb, in which he did not fall under the Immigration quota because of his double citizenship. For Medveščak he ran parallel to the Slovenian Hockey League and the Croatian Hockey League and was with the team in the playoffs right away Croatian champion. After recording Medveščak in the Austrian Hockey League for the season 2009/10 he gave two assists in 14 games. He also completed two games for the second team in the league Slohokej. He then finished his career at the age of 32 years.

Internationally

For Slovenia Žagar took part in the U18 Junior C European Championships in 1995 and 1996 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 1996 and 1997 at junior level. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the B World Championships in 2000 and 2004 as well as in the A World Championships 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006.
