Lully (Haute-Savoie)

Lully is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Lully is located on 540 m above sea level. M., 11 km southwest of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Bas -Chablais, a slightly elevated position west of the Ruisseau de la Gorge, at the northern foot of the Alps in the area of the pass crossing the Col de Cou.

The area of ​​4.86 km ² municipal area includes a little in relief section of the Bas -Chablais. The plateau in Lully is overall slightly inclined to the northwest and is drained by the Ruisseau de la Gorge to Foron which opens at Sciez in Lake Geneva. To the north extends the communal land to the extensive forests of the Forêt de Plan Bois. Above the village center is at 580m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Lully.

Lully to include the hamlet settlements Chez Jacquier ( 544 m above sea level. M. ) and La Rochette ( 562 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau at the northern foot of the Tête du Char. Neighboring communities of Lully are Sciez and Perrignier in the north, the east, and Cervens Fessy and Bons- en- Chablais in the West.

History

The place name Lully is first mentioned in the 15th century. Originally, the name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name and means Lullius estate of Lullius.

Attractions

The village church of Lully dates from the 19th century. Of the secular buildings, the Château de Buffavent (15th century) and the ruins of the Château de la Rochette to be mentioned.

Population

With 682 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lully one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous strong growth of population was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Lully was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the environment or in Thonon -les- Bains.

The village is located on the connecting road D903, which runs from Saint- Cergues directly to Thonon -les- Bains. Further road links exist with Cervens and Fessy.
