Building complex Lutsk Brotherhood

The complex Lutsk Brotherhood is a historical and architectural ensemble of buildings of Lutsk Brotherhood of the Holy Cross, which consists of the Exaltation of the Cross Church and monastery. This complex is located on the border of two places: Brother bridge and marketplace.

The brotherhood complex which was built in the years 1630-1640. History

In the 16th century lay in the north of Lutsk part of the island next to the Gluschetsk bridge the so-called " Russian hospital " with the St. Lazar 's church and the cemetery. In 1619 the complex burned down. On February 20, 1619 entitled King Sigismund III. Wasa the Brotherhood to build in the same place a new hospital, plus a church and a school.

By the end of 1619 decreed the Brotherhood over the former Russian hospital and the designs of the new buildings. Despite obstacles arising, began in 1620 the construction of the church and the school of wood, which were completed in the same year. The early 1630s they began to build the new brick church. The founders of the establishment were both individual personalities, Brotherhood members, citizens, clergy as well as whole Volhynian battle slot families: Gulevytschi, Pusyny, Semaschky and Tschetvertynski.

In 1645 you got, thanks to the efforts of the Brotherhood member Oleksandr Moselli, the order of the king Władysław IV Vasa establishing the hospital wall. Moselli donated about 41,000 gold pieces for the construction of which was begun in the following year. In 1647, the two-story building was completed and here found the hospital, school, monks' cells, library and printing office.

Since 1713 the Brotherhood Lutsk fell into decay. The monastery went to the Basilianorden. 1761 the monastery was destroyed by a fire, the restoration took until 1774th It was built in the church altar a new entrance. In 1795, the church was together with the Orthodox Cathedral and the monastery. In the 19th century the church was almost completely destroyed, because no one cared about them. There remained only the altar part. In 1888 was built from the remains of a church chapel. The Brotherhood got 3,000 Karbowanez of Emperor Alexander III. , Who visited the church on August 27, 1890, and later from 2000 Karbowanez Brotherhood member M. Tereshchenko. It restored the iconostasis and the bells were cast. In 1890 the chapel was again to the temple.

Today is the Exaltation of the Cross Church of the Brotherhood, known as Sprengel Temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate since 1990.

Architecture

The church architecture is represented by two concepts: with triple-chamber, which were the Ukrainian wooden churches own, and with three naves, which originated from the Byzantine architecture. The iconostasis is carved from oak and gilt and dates from the 19th century. It consists of 16 icons. The area between the icons is decorated with six gilt Schnitzensäulchen. The second rank of the iconostasis form two side panels with icons. Above them are angels with crosses and the words "Christ is risen " shown.
