Lycium brevipes

Lycium brevipes

Lycium brevipes is a species of the genus Bock mandrels ( Lycium ) in the nightshade family (Solanaceae ).

Description

Lycium brevipes is a 1 to 3 m tall, dense and convoluted branched shrub. Its leaves are succulent, glabrous and 3 to 30 mm long and 2-8 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and four or fünfzählig. The calyx is bell-shaped and hairless hairy up close. The length of the calyx tube is 1 to 3 mm, that of the sepals 1-6 mm. The crown is bell-shaped to tubular, colored, pink or purple, in Kronschlund the veins are dark colored. The length of the corolla tube is 4 to 10 mm, the length of the corolla lobes may be only 1/3 the length of the corolla tube or it can be almost as long. The stamens are nearly glabrous at the base of the freestanding range, however, in a 1 to 2 mm large area directly above it are densely pubescent tomentose.

The fruit is an ovoid berry, which is 4-6 mm thick and contains a variety of seeds.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in North America and is present there in the Mexican states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sinaloa and Sonora, as well as in the U.S. states of Arizona and California.

System

Molecular biological studies place the species together with Lycium carolinianum, Lycium Lycium tenuispinosum and rachidocladum in a significantly supported clade, which in turn is placed in a larger clade of purely American species.
