The Macalister River is a river in the central Gippsland in the Australian state of Victoria. The river was named by its discoverer Angus McMillan after his then employer.
The river rises on the southern slope of Mount Howitt in the Great Dividing Range and flows through the Alpine National Park to the south-west and on the west boundary of the park to the south. North of Glenmaggie it flows into Lake Glenmaggie and then at Heyfield in the Thomson River.
