Macro-Jê languages

Macro - Ge is an indigenous American language family, which includes 41 languages ​​, 23 of them are already extinct, and earlier in the eastern part of South America, especially Brazil was common. Many speakers of Macro -Ge languages ​​have assimilated to the Portuguese and abandoned their native language. The remaining language groups of the Macro -Ge are numerically small. The speaker richest language is the language of Kaingang with 18,000 native speakers, which is spoken in the Brazilian states of São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

Structure

According to Ethnologue, these languages ​​are divided (this structure contains only 32 languages ​​), as follows:

  • Kaingang group: Kaingang [ kgp ] (about 18,000 speakers)

  • Jabuti [ jbt ]

With the exception of Chiquitano, which is spoken in Bolivia, all these languages ​​are spoken in Brazil.
