Mae Fa Luang District
Amphoe Mae Fa Luang ( in Thai: อำเภอ แม่ ฟ้า หลวง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the north of the province of Chiang Rai. The Chiang Rai province is located in the extreme north of the northern region of Thailand.
Geography
Neighboring districts are ( from northeast clockwise): the Amphoe Mae Sai, Mae Chan Mueang Chiang Rai Province Chiang Rai and Mae Ai the province of Chiang Mai. In the northwest, the Shan State of Myanmar lies.
History
The area of today's Mae Fa Luang was founded as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) on 1 April 1992, consisting of the three tambon Thöt Thai, Mae Salong Nai and Mae Salong Nok, which were cleaved from the Mae Chan district. The fourth municipality Mae Fa Luang was founded in 1996. On 5 December 1996, the county Mae Fa Luang Amphoe received full status.
Etymology
The name of the district comes from the king's mother Srinagarindra, which was called by the mountain people of the Mae Fa Luang region.
Management
The circle is divided into four subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 87 villages ( Muban ).
There are also four " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
