Chiang Saen District

Amphoe Chiang Saen ( Thai: อำเภอ เชียงแสน ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the northern province of Chiang Rai. The Chiang Rai province is located in the extreme north of the northern region of Thailand. The district capital is also called Chiang Saen.

Geography

Neighboring districts are ( from east clockwise): Amphoe Chiang Khong the Doi Luang, Mae Chan and Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province. In the north, Chiang Saen is a limit tells the Shan State of Myanmar and the Lao province of Bokeo.

The area where the Ruak River is flows into the Mekong referred to as the Golden Triangle. The border region of the three countries Thailand, Myanmar and Laos is now a popular destination for tourists.

History

The city of Chiang Saen has been converted at the beginning of the 20th century in a circle, which is also one of the same sub-district ( King Amphoe ) was composed of the center. The sub-district was disbanded in 1925. Two years later he was re-established under the name of Chiang Saen Luang ( เชียงแสน หลวง ). In 1939, the sub-district in Chiang Saen was renamed while the existing Circle Chiang Saen was renamed to Mae Chan. On April 6, 1957, the sub-district received the full Amphoe status.

Management

The circle is divided into six subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 82 villages ( Muban ).

In addition, there are six " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
