Magdalene Sibylle of Holstein-Gottorp

Magdalena Sibylla of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp, and Magdalena Sybille or Magdalene Sybille, (* 1631 in Gottorp Castle, † 1719 in Güstrow ) was 1654-1695 wife of the reigning Duke of Mecklenburg in the part of the country Mecklenburg- Güstrow Gustav Adolf.

Origin

Magdalene Sybille of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp was the daughter of Duke Friedrich III. born of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp (1597-1659) and his wife Maria Elisabeth of Saxony ( 1610-1684 ).

Duchess of Mecklenburg

On December 28, 1654 Magdalene Sybille married the reigning Duke of Mecklenburg in the part of the country Mecklenburg- Güstrow Gustav Adolf.

Progeny

The couple had eleven children, but no surviving male heirs. This leads to a succession dispute, which was settled with the Hamburg comparison of 1701 and Mecklenburg newly formed inside.

Widow

After the death of her husband stayed Magdalene Sybille still for 26 years widowed Duchess and entertained in Güstrow a small yard. However, the former residence lost after the extinction of the line of Mecklenburg- Güstrow its former glory and its importance.
