Marie Amalie of Brandenburg

Maria Amalia of Brandenburg- Schwedt ( * November 26, 1670 in Coelln, today in Berlin, † November 17, 1739 at Castle Bertholdsburg in Schleusingen ) was a Hohenzollern princess from the sideline Brandenburg- Schwedt and by marriage Duchess of Saxon Sekundogenitur principality of Saxony - Zeitz.

Family

She was the daughter of the " Great Elector " Frederick William of Brandenburg from his second marriage with Dorothea Sophie of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg, daughter of Duke Philip of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg.

Life

As a duchess, she attended the 1709 Wilhelm Fountain, whose development as a seaside resort it was the leading sponsor.

She died 69 years old in the former hen berg residence Schleusingen that she had received after the death of her husband as a jointure, and was buried on the basis of the connection between her daughter and the Hessian princely house in the royal crypt of St. Martin Church at Kassel.

Marriage and issue

In her first marriage, she was married on August 20, 1687 in Potsdam with Prince Charles of Mecklenburg, son of the Duke Gustav Adolf, Duke of Mecklenburg and the Magdalena Sibylla of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp. On March 15, 1688 her husband Charles died of smallpox and their only child together even at birth.

In his second marriage she married on June 25, 1689 in Potsdam Duke Moritz Wilhelm of Saxe- Zeitz, son of the Duke Moritz of Saxony- Zeitz and Dorothea Maria of Saxe- Weimar, whom she survived her by 21 years. For the connection, the following children were born:
