Beside PHP Magento relies on the configuration via XML files. This serves not only to the general configuration of the technical basis, but is also used to configure the interfaces to the display in the back as well as be able to adapt both in the frontend.

Cache backend

Magento is able to deal with different cache backends. Essentially, these are:

  • File
  • SQLite
  • Memcached
  • APC
  • XCache
  • ZendPlatform
  • TwoLevels

In addition, other backends such as Redis, MongoDB or own developments can be used. As an external cache backend can be resorted to Varnish.

Features and capabilities

Site Management

Magento provides the ability to manage multiple stores with independent catalogs and customer bases to different domains. In addition, Magento can be multitenant furnished. That is, even in the B2B environment, it is possible to offer a particular product range to a customer and to show another customer to another range. The management takes place here at three levels:

Processing of orders

In Magento, similarly as in a commodity economy, Orders are managed. An order can be completely created in the backend of Magento. Typically, but it is generated by the customer on the front end, in which he adds products to the cart at the box office its billing and shipping address inputs, the selected payment and shipping method and click on " Buy " clicked. For online payments, the customer is often passed on "Buy" after the jump to a page where he is expected to complete the payment. The shop owner is able to process an order, in which he (partial) bills (partial) delivery notes and (partial ) creates credits, whereby the order according to a fixed scheme the state, and thus the status changes. While ordering states are firmly anchored in Magento, multiple status codes are assigned to one or a state. By manually setting the status of the progress of the processing of an order can be communicated externally and internally fine.

Magento Connect

Magento Connect is a marketplace for extensions to the standard functionality.

The end of 2009 there were about 1500 Extensions, partly charged, from different areas (administration, payment, shipping modules, templates, catalog extension ) are available.
