Maieru

Maieru ( Maier German, Hungarian Major) is a municipality in the north of Transylvania in a circle Bistrita-Nasaud in Romania.

History

The first mention was 1440th With the other parts of Transylvania Maieru belonged to 1919 and then from 1940 to 1944 for Hungary, from 1919 to 1940 and since 1944 it has belonged to Romania. In the Middle Ages the town was inhabited by Romanians to Austria - Hungarian period, the population consisted mainly of Romanians. In the census of 1910 3125 inhabitants were counted. By 1992 the population had grown to 7186.
