Telciu

Telciu ( Teltsch German, Hungarian Telcs ) is a village in the district Bistrita-Nasaud in Romania.

Location

Telciu is located in northern Transylvania. Through the village run the National Road 17C and the railway line Salva- Viseu de Jos. The district capital Bistrita in the south is around 45 km away. Telciu is located in a mountainous and forested area.

Population

In the village live mainly Romanians. In the 2002 census, nine known from the then 5377 inhabitants also the Hungarian, German and two for one on the Ukrainian nationality. Eleven residents identified themselves as Gypsies. In the village itself Telciu 3950 people were registered, the other in 1427 in the three incorporated villages.

History

There is no accurate data on the foundation of the town. For the first time in 1245 under the Hungarian king Béla IV, the area is mentioned under the Latin name Vallis Rodnensis. It was partly autonomous and possessed special rights. The later testified Chsech name is probably of Slavic origin and means " calf". He comes from the calf-rearing of the inhabitants here.

The area was managed according to ancient traditions. The inhabitants had to pay an annual tax of 130 gold coins to the Hungarian king.

On June 3, 1475, the king Matthias Corvinus wrote a letter to Districtus Saxonicus future membership in the region - that is, to the area of the Transylvanian Saxons - certain. For all time, the region should belong to the city Bistitz. The inhabitants had then to pay the same taxes as the Saxons.

According to Government Emergency Ordinance No 30 of 5 May 2004, the church was reorganized. The hitherto belonging to Coşbuc village Bichigiu was awarded the municipality Telciu.

Infrastructure

In the community there is next ten kindergartens seven schools and a high school. 1978 households are reported in 2195 worldwide.

Economy

In Telciu farming is done mainly. In the village there are processing plants for wood and milk.
