Malbaza

Region

Malbaza is a rural municipality and the capital of the eponymous department Malbaza in Niger.

Geography

Malbaza is located at the junction of Great Landscape Sudan Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Tajaé the northwest, Badaguichiri in the northeast, Doguérawa in the east, the south and Tsernaoua Allela in the West. The municipality is divided into 37 administrative villages, three traditional villages, 78 hamlets and two camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Malbaza.

History

The rural community Malbaza went as an administrative unit 2002 through the course of a nationwide administrative reform from the western part of the canton Doguérawa. Since 2011 part of the rural community to the Department no longer Birni - N'Konni, but for newly created Department Malbaza.

Population

At the 2001 census Malbaza had 74 076 inhabitants. For the year 2010 99.804 inhabitants were calculated.

Policy

In the local elections in July 2004 Assoumane Hamani ( PNDS - Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On 15 April 2010 the Council of Ministers in May Abatcha Manga appointed administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) the community and Omar Diamballa head of the administrative post ( chef de poste administratif ) of Malbaza.

Culture and sights

The Great Mosque of Salewa is a built in 1989 Friday mosque in the village in the municipality of Salewa Malbaza. The architect of the building was died in 2002 Elhadj Mamoudou, called Falcon, a self-taught artist who was originally manufacturer. The builder was Elhadj Habou, worked with the falcon on other construction projects. The Great Mosque of Salewa is one to be mentioned by two mosques to accommodate the proposal presented in 2006, the UNESCO of the Nigerien Ministry of Culture, the mosques in the region of Tahoua region in the list of world cultural heritage, especially next to the Great Mosque of Yaama in Badaguichiri.

Economy and infrastructure

In the rural community is an important cement factory: Société de Nigérienne Cimenterie (SNC ) was established in 1963 and privatized in 1998. By Malbaza the National Road 1, which here is part of the international highway Dakar - N'Djamena - Highway runs. The municipality is located in that narrow zone along the border with Nigeria, ranging from Tounouga in the west to the east Malawa and operated in irrigated crop production for cash crops.
