Maldivian (airline)

Maldivian ( previously Iceland Aviation Services ) is a national airline of the Maldives based in Malé and based on the Malé International Airport.

History

The airline was founded on 13 April 2000 as Iceland Aviation Services of the Government of the Maldives. The state owns all the shares until today, making it the only state-owned airline in the country. Since 25 August 2008, the airline will operate under the trade names Maldivian. It is next to Trans Maldivian Airways, the only airline in the country that offers a land plane with domestic services.

In September 2008, a Bombardier Dash 8Q -300 former Augsburg Airways was inducted into the fleet. The ferry flight was launched in Cairns on 11 September 2008 and led through Darwin, Bali, Singapore, Port Blair and Colombo to Male. In January 2012 it was announced the Maldivian has taken another Dash 8Q -300 of the Austrian Intersky.

Except for the air service in Maldivian also offers ground handling, cargo services, maintenance and other services and also operates an airport lounge on the Malé International Airport.

On 2 March 2013, the U.S. investment firm Blackstone Group announced the acquisition of majority stakes in the Trans Maldivian Airways and Maldivian the. Then, the operations of the two airlines merged.

Destinations

From Malé from the four domestic airports Gan, Kaadedhdhoo, Kadhdhoo and Hanimaadhoo are served. The flights are mainly used by locals, as the tickets over the two water taxi operators Maldivian Air Taxi and Trans Maldivian Airways are cheaper by about half, the proportion of foreign travelers is only about 20 percent.
