Manuel MartÃnez Gutiérrez
Manuel Martínez Gutiérrez ( born December 7, 1974 in León ) is a former Spanish shot putter. In 2003, he won gold at the World Indoor Championships and 2004 bronze medal at the Olympics.
Life
Manuel Martínez became vice world champion and European champion at junior level. In 1993, he won his first Spanish league title in the indoor and outdoor. In the hall, he won 1993-2007 fifteen successive title, outdoors he won from 1993 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2006 (as at 31 December 2007). From 1993 to 2002 he improved 16 times the Spanish national record. At age 19, he missed at the European Indoor Championships his first medal win at European Championships by 19 centimeters, until six years later he obtained then with silver in Ghent his first medal. His best year was 2002 when he set his personal best in both indoor and outdoor. In Vienna his Hallenbestleistung handed to European title; his outdoor record of Salamanca would also have been sufficient at the European Championships in Munich to win the title.
2003 Martínez succeeded with the victory at the World Indoor Championships to be probably the greatest success, in the open air, he could not qualify in 2003 as the 15th qualifying for the World Cup finals. In 2004, he missed the Olympic bronze medal by 23 centimeters over the Dane Joachim Olsen, Olsen was in turn only nine centimeters behind gold and silver. After the event of subsequent doping controls the winner Yuri Bilonoh was transferred, Martínez received later in 2013 the bronze medal.
2006 Martínez ninth narrowly missed the final battle with his fourth outdoor European Championships. 2008 Martínez participated in the Olympics for the fourth time. He did not reach the final battle, as well as at the World Championships in 2009.
At a height of 1.85 m his competition weight was 125 kg.
