Manyas

Manyas is a town and a district of the Turkish province of Balıkesir. The city is located about 45 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Balıkesir.

The district is located in the north of the province. It is bordered on the southeast by Susurluk, in the south to the central district, on the southwest by Balya, on the west by Gonen and to the north by Bandırma. In the north, the district borders Lake Manyas Gölü (also Kuş Gölü, German bird lake ). The lake was declared in 1959 because of its biodiversity and the risks related to industrial wastewater to the National Park Kuş Cenneti Milli Parkı, but what could hardly prevent pollution, so the former so-called bird of paradise ( Turkish Kuş Cenneti ) is obtained only slightly. About two kilometers north of the river happened Koca Çay (also Madras Deresi, Manyas Deresi or Kadıköy Deresi ) the city, which flows into the lake.

Attractions

In the northeast of the county, near the village of Ergili, only about two kilometers away from the shores of Manyas Gölü, lie the ruins of the ancient city Daskyleion, excavated by the Turkish archaeologist Tomris Bakır since 1988.
