Marc Demeyer

Marc Demeyer ( born April 19, 1950 in Avelgem, Belgium, † January 20, 1982 in Merelbeke, Belgium) was a Belgian racing cyclist. Since 1971 he was a member of the Belgian national team, when he started, among others in the Peace Race and won a stage. His professional career began in 1972 and was active as a professional until his death in 1982. He had died of a heart attack in his sleep.

Demeyer took part in the six- time Tour de France and finished it in 1973 as a 41 He was successful both in one-day races and stage races. He won two Tour stages, twice the intermediate sprint standings of the Tour (1973 and 1975 ), three stages of the Giro d' Italia, Paris -Roubaix and Paris- Brussels.

As helpers and supporters, he was next to Freddy Maertens and Michel Pollen animal as one of the Three Musketeers. Usually Demeyer was the Sprint Anfahrer Maertens.
