Marcello Bernardini

Marcello Bernardini, also known as Marcello di (da) Capua (* 1730 in Capua, Italy; † after 1799 ) was an Italian composer and librettist.

Life

About his youth and musical education, nothing is handed down. Maybe Bernardini is the son of Rinaldo di Capua. In 1764 he moved to Rome, where his first opera La schiava astuta ( an intermezzo in two parts ) will be premiered during the Carnival of 1765. Another intermezzo Il Passeggio in villa follows the same year. Until 1770, giving five other stage works. In addition to the Komische Oper he devoted himself increasingly to the dramatic composition. From 1770 he was in the service of composers such as a librettist Giovanni Battista Borghi, Pietro Martín y Soler Terziani and Vicente. 1771 he composed his first oratorio Il Novello di Gedeone. After he takes a few trips across Italy and half of Europe. 1794 he is in Vienna and in 1795 he is mentioned as Kapellmeister at the Polish court.

Despite its productivity in composing operas and writing the libretto texts have been preserved literature of his 37 operas, many libretti and books until today only 13 operas, cantatas two and a handful.
