Rinaldo di Capua

Rinaldo di (da) Capua (* 1710 in Capua, † 1770 in Naples) was an Italian composer. It is believed that Capua could be the father of the composer Marcello Bernardini.

Life

About its origin, life and career is much speculation. Initially, he used his talent as a pure pastime. After he succeeded his father and the money gradually ran out, Capua was compelled to pursue the profession of composer seriously. This he was with considerable success, since 1737 at the latest after the new scoring Ciro riconosciuto in Italy on everyone's lips. Originally composed by Antonio Caldara occasion of the birthday of Elisabeth Christine, wife of Charles VI. ( premiered on August 28, 1736, in Vienna). Capua most famous work Vologeso, re de ' Parti, premiered in 1739 in Rome, called the music historian Charles Burney as a perfect example of the dramatic composition. In 1740 he was in Lisbon, where he wrote three opera seria ( serious opera ). 1742 returned to Capua to Rome. During the Buffonistenstreits he was in Paris. There, the two interludes La donna superba (1752 ) and La Zingara (1753 ) emerged. l ' Adriano in Siria ( 1758) is referred to as his last serious work. The last years of his life fulfilled spent Capua in a melancholy and unproductive lifestyle. As it Charles Burney visited in 1770 in Naples, he found Capua in an oppressive, economic situation. 1778 premiered with La Giocondina his last comic opera. The motives of his son to destroy a large part of Capua estate, including many unpublished manuscripts are difficult to understand.
