Marcillac AOC

The vineyards of Marcillac located in the northeast of the wine-growing region Sud -Ouest in southwest France, about 20 km northeast of the city Rodez. On 2 April 1990, the former VDQS was as Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ) classified. The vineyards cover 150 hectares and are within the 11 municipalities Marcillac- Vallon, Balsac, Clairvaux- d'Aveyron, Goutrens, Mouret, Nauviale, Pruines, Salles- la-Source, Saint- Cyprien- sur- Dourdou, Saint- Christophe- Vallon and Valady (all located in the department of Aveyron). The Rebgärten are located on steep slopes up to an altitude of 400 m. Due to the geography of the area 's microclimate is characterized by a mix of Mediterranean, Atlantic and continental influences.

The red wine with a minimum alcohol content of 10 percent by volume is blended from the indigenous grape variety Fer Servadou, which is called here Mansoi (at least 90 %) and secondary varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The harvest is limited to 50 hectoliters / hectare.

The grape variety Fer has strong tannins, why are these wines for a barrel extension. Many winemakers reject this, however, since in this case the typicality is lost. The wines have a beautiful fruit, reminiscent of currant and raspberry and this with a solid tannin structure. They reach maturity after three to five years.

In small amounts, even a rosé from the same grape varieties is generated. The rosé wine should be enjoyed young.
