Marco Zernicke

Marco Zernicke (born 5 December 1969) is a former German football player.

Club career

In youth Marco Zernicke played for VfB Hermsdorf.

His first game in the men's area, he played for Hertha BSC in 1987 in the third-tier Oberliga Berlin when he came off the bench in the top match against Tennis Borussia. At the end of the season Hertha rose to the second league. But only on matchday 32 of the 1988/89 season he came in a 4-0 home win over Rot-Weiss Essen where it was first used and promptly scored a goal. The following season, the young midfielder already completed 13 league games and was also involved in the rise of Hertha in the Bundesliga. In the top division, and his team Zernicke, however, should quickly reach their limits and were already knocked off early in the season in the basement table. The young Zernicke came here until the winter break regularly used as the new coach Peter Neururer in Berlin was set. However, the descent could not be prevented and it should Zernickes last season to stay in the Bundesliga. Until 1994, he played as an established regulars yet for Hertha in the second division, mostly in the upper third of the table.

From 1994 to 2000, played the midfielder for SC Fortuna Köln. While his former team Hertha BSC 1997 ascent managed Fortuna always played in midfield in the league. In Cologne Marco Zernicke was first converted into a defender, then played from its third season, but back in the defensive midfield. In the season 1999/ 00, although his team was the first city rivals FC Cologne defeat twice, got on the end of the season but still off. In the two following years played Zernicke, again as a defensive player, even for Alemannia Aachen in the second division. After the 2001/02 season and only narrowly avoided relegation the Alemanni Marco Zernicke finished with 32 years of his career as a football player.
