History

Marcussen & Son was founded in 1806 by Jürgen Marcussen. 1811 awarded him King Frederick VI. the concession as an organ builder. 1826 took Marcusssen his comrade, and friend Andreas Reuter, who is the inventor of the vocal slits, a partner in the company on. Now operating under the Marcussen & Reuter. Since 1830, the company has its headquarters in the city of Aabenraa. Marcussens son Jürgen Andreas Marcussen was involved from 1848 to the company. The first church organs, produced by the company were, in Baroque style, from the early 20th century, however, more emphasis was placed on technical innovations, such as improved pneumatic and electrification of the organs. This turned out, however, quickly as an aberration. Only under the leadership of Sybrand Zachariassen (1900-1960), who took over the company in the early 1920, they returned to the mechanical organ with a large range back. During the 20th century Marcussen & Son gained international reputation. Apart from the actual organ building and organ restorations are made (eg in the cathedral of Roskilde ).
