Margaret Downey

Margaret Downey ( born August 16, 1950) is an American civil rights activist and current president of Atheist Alliance International. She is also founder of the Anti- Discrimination Support Network, which advocates for the interests of atheists and for the separation of church and state.

Downey grew up as the daughter of a Puerto Rican mother and an Irish. She was a long time as civil rights activist in various fields, including women's rights, active before they focus dealt with atheism, since her son's continued membership in the Boy Scouts of America was denied because of his atheistic views. Their reports were included in publications of the United Nations on religious discrimination. She sat as a member of Freedom From Religion Foundation and the American Humanist Association for the separation of religion and state.
