Margaret Taylor

Margaret " Peggy " Mackall Smith Taylor ( born September 21, 1788 in Calvert County, Maryland, † August 14 1852 in East Pascagoula, Mississippi) was the wife of U.S. President Zachary Taylor and First Lady of the United States from 1849 until 1850.

Peggy was the daughter of Ann Mackall and Walter Smith. 1809, when she visited a sister in Kentucky, she met Lt.. Taylor. The two married in June of the following year.

Their only son Richard Taylor was an American politician and lieutenant general. Her second daughter Sarah Knox Taylor married Lt. Jefferson Davis.
