Maria Cioncan

Maria Cioncan (* June 19, 1977 in Maieru, district Bistrita-Nasaud; † January 21, 2007 in Pleven, Bulgaria) was a Romanian middle distance runner and Olympic bronze medalist.

Maria Cioncan was 2003 Romanian in the 800 -meter run as well as 2003 and 2004 in the 1500 -meter run champion. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, she won the 1500 -meter run in a personal best, the bronze medal behind Kelly Holmes (GBR) and Tatjana Tomaschowa (RUS ). In the 800 - meter race she finished seventh.

When returning from a training camp in Greece she was killed on January 21, 2007 in a car accident. According to the police report, she lost control of her car, a Skoda Fabia I, and drove into a tree, which was located at the edge of the road from Sofia to Pleven.

Maria Cioncan had a competition weight of 51 kg at a height of 1.72 m.
