Maria of Aragon, Queen of Portugal
Maria of Spain ( born June 29, 1482 Córdoba, † March 7, 1517 in Lisbon ) was a Infanta of Castile and as the second wife of Emanuel lucky from 1500 until her death Titularkönigin of Portugal.
Life
Mary was a daughter of the Catholic Kings, so by Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon.
She had four siblings, including Joan the Mad of Spain, and Catherine of Aragon, wife of King Henry VIII of England, whose not sanctioned by the Pope divorce was the separation of the Anglican Catholic Church of the result.
Before her, her older sister Elizabeth of Spain had already been married to King Emanuel I.. These died in 1498 after the birth of her first son. In 1500 she then married the widower of her sister, to maintain the dynastic relations between the royal families of Portugal and Spain.
