Mario Luigi Ciappi

Mario Luigi Cardinal Ciappi OP ( born October 6, 1909 in Florence, Italy, † April 23, 1996 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and papal theologian house.

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy Mario Luigi Ciappi received on 26 March 1932 in Rome, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Pope Paul VI. Ciappi appointed on 10 June 1977 Titular Bishop of Misenum. He received his episcopal consecration on 18 June of the same year the Cardinal Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, Cardinal Dino Staffa, in the Santa Maria sopra Minerva basilica; Co-consecrators were the then Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Archbishop Jean Jérôme Hamer Curia, and the Bishop of Ventimiglia, Angelo Raimondo Verardo. Shortly thereafter, on 27 June 1977 at the last consistory under Paul VI. He was made a cardinal deacon with the title of Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore diakonia in the College of Cardinals. He took part in the conclave of August 1978, Pope John Paul I chose; as the conclave from October 1978 part, the Pope John Paul II chose. On 22 June 1987, he opted for the titular church of Sacro Cuore di Gesù agonizzante a Vitinia and was elevated to cardinal priests.

After his death he was buried in Rome in the Campo Verano.
