Mark Olson (musician)

Mark Olson ( born September 18, 1961 in Minneapolis ) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. He was one of the founding members of the American " old country" band "The Jayhawks " later " (Original Harmony Ridge ) Creekdippers ".

Life

Olson founded the Jayhawks in 1985 with the singer and guitarist Gary Louris and was originally the main singer and writer of the group. With Marc Perlman (bass) and Thad Spencer (drums), they released their eponymous debut album in 1986 with the independent publishing Bunkhouse Records. After her album Blue Earth (1987 published in Twin Town label from Minneapolis ) they signed a contract with Def American. Their first album for Def American in 1992 that produced by George Drakoulias work Hollywood Town Hall with the successful single Waiting For The Sun. After an extensive tour the band in 1995 produced the album Tomorrow The Green Grass with the radio hit Blue.

The album is the song Miss Williams ' Guitar, a love song to Olson's then girlfriend and later wife, the singer -songwriter Victoria Williams. After the release of Tomorrow The Green Grass Olson left the band in order to take care of Victoria Williams, who suffers from multiple sclerosis. The Jayhawks released later without him three more albums before Olson returned to the band in November 2010 for the album Mockingbird Time, and the subsequent tours in 2011 and 2012 as a songwriter and vocalist / guitarist.

Olson and Williams attracted the mid-90s on a farm in Joshua Tree in California and published with the multi-instrumentalist Mike " Razz " Russell as The Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers (later only briefly Creekdippers ) from 1997, several albums.
