Markel Irizar

Markel Irízar Aranburu ( born February 5, 1980 in Oñate / Gipuzkoa ) is a Spanish cyclist.

Irízar was successfully treated for testicular cancer in 2002 and began his professional career in 2004 in the Basque cycling team Euskaltel -Euskadi.

In 2006 he took part in the two major national tours Giro d' Italia and Vuelta a Espana. In Italy he finished 90th place in the standings and on the Iberian Peninsula in the 94th rank. In addition, the Basque Irízar at the Euskal Bizikleta was 44th overall. Beginning of the 2008 season could Irízar at the Paris-Nice stage race with a second place in the prologue, and only one second behind surprise on the winner.
