Marko Kmetec

Marko Kmetec (born 3 January 1976) is a Slovenian football player. The striker, who had in 2008 serving a doping suspension of several months, won in the season 2002 /03 the title of the Slovenian scorer in the Slovenska Nogometna league.

Career

Kmetec began his career at ND Mura 05, he had already represented as a teenager on the football field. From there he moved in 1997 to NK Maribor. With his new club, he won the championship in 1998. Allegedly he received his deployment times at the club under coach Bojan Prašnikar due to payments of his players adviser to the coach. However, after a further half of the season he left the club and joined in January 1999 within the league for NK Olimpija Ljubljana. With 16 goals this season he was in the season 1999/2000 top scorer of his club, finishing behind Kliton Bozgo, Oskar Drobne and Uroš Barut fourth place in the scoresheet. At season's end, he also achieved with the club the cup final against NK Korotan. After the first leg had ended in a 1-2 defeat, he wore as a scorer in the 2-0 second-leg success significantly to the Cup victory. Even if he was not nearly as score goals in the following season, he played on the side of Sebastjan Cimirotič, Ermin Rakovič, Dušan Kosic and Ismet Munisi for the title, but had to settle for the team with two points off his old club NK Maribor settle for the runner. The club gave Kmetec for the subsequent 2001/ 02 to the league rivals NK Korotan. There he contributed five goals this season to avoid relegation at the table tenth.

After his return to NK Olimpija Kmetec be established again in the storm of the club. On the side of Miran Pavlin, Anton Žlogar and Blaž Puc he showed his old Torgefahr again and placed with 23 goals this season in front of Marko Vogric, Ramiz Smajlovic and Dražen Žeželj at the top of the scoring list. Nevertheless, he handed to the third place in the table only to reach the European Cup. In the following year he met two digits with his 16 goals this season, he finished behind Žeželj second place scorer. Behind ND Gorica it resubmitted only for runners.

After NK Olimpija had come into financial problems and could not pay salaries on time, Kmetec left as some other players after the season in the summer of 2004 the club. New Club of the striker was the Cypriot club Ethnikos Achnas, with whom he first played against relegation. In the season 2005/ 06 he scored eleven goals and thus contributed to the fact that the team qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup. After wins FK Partizani Tirana, NK Osijek and Maccabi Petah Tikva he reached her second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup 2006/07. On the side of Christos Kotsonis, Goran Grkinić and his countryman Patrik Ipavec the club sat there through against the Belgian representative KSV Roeselare, but failed subsequently in the first round at RC Lens.

In the summer of 2007 left Kmetec Cyprus after he again moved with the club as a table fourth in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, and he returned to Slovenia. New club was NK Drava Ptuj of the first division. As a regular scorer, he supported the club in the fight to avoid relegation. In April 2008, he tested positive in a doping test. Following the outcome in mid-May, he was locked until the end of the year and released by his club.

Upon vesting, at the beginning of 2009 Kmetec returned as a striker of the second division ND Mura 05, when his predecessor club he had started his career back on the football field. By the end of the season he ran for the club with which he missed out in fourth ascent. He then joined the league rivals Aluminij Kidricevo.
