Background

Marry the Night was written during the Monster Ball Tour 2010 Lady Gaga and Fernando Garibay. Garibay had already worked on Dance in the Dark, which has a very strong influence on Marry the Night. Lady Gaga did not want the song as one of their former works sounds and therefore was influenced by the church bells music. She herself said that she started to cry when she heard the song for the first time. Originally Marry the Night 2010 was recorded in the studio bus. Later it was completed by Tony Maserati at RMC Studios in Los Angeles.

On 14 February 2011 Lady Gaga said in Ryan Seacrest 's radio show that Marry the Night is the first title and one of her favorite songs from the anticipated album. In addition, she said:

"It's like Whitney, but in the idea that Bruce Springsteen had a baby with Whitney Houston. And that 's it, we have a baby. Finally, after all that Fernando and I had worked long and tedious. "

Composition

Marry the Night is a dance-pop song that is influenced by electro and house. It starts with electronic church bells and Lady Gaga sings softly, " I'm gonna marry the night / I will not give up on my life / I'm a warrior queen / Live passionately tonight". The pace is quite slow at 64 beats per minute. The key is A minor with a vocal range of G3 -E5. The church bells are to establish parallels between Gaga's fans ( Little Monsters ) and religion (Christianity).

Criticism

Marry the Night has received some positive reviews from critics. Stephen Erlewine of Allmusic said, " Marry the Night shines with a neon pulse ". Sal Cinquemani from Slant Magazine called it a worthy successor to Dance in the Dark and BBC Music said that Marry the Night is perfect and can be a colossus. About.com described the song as close to perfect and it was a great invitation to the darkness, to embrace inside and out.

A negative review came from PopMatters, who felt including the instrumental section after the 3:35 mark as meaningless.

Music Video

The music video was filmed from 10 to 13 October 2011 in Staten Iceland and Harlem (both New York). On November 20, at first was a two- minute section, then published the full video on December 1. Overall, the video is almost 14 minutes and, by far the longest Lady Gaga.
