Martin O'Donoghue

Martin O'Donoghue ( born May 13, 1933, Dublin) is an Irish economist, university professor and former politician Fianna Fáil.

Biography

After schooling, he studied economics and was later 1970-1973 economic adviser to Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Jack Lynch and Professor of Economics at Trinity College in Dublin.

His national political career began as the Fianna Fáil candidate with the election of deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ), in which he represented the interests of the constituency of Dún Laoghaire until 1982.

After the election victory of Fianna Fáil, he was appointed on 8 July 1977 by Prime Minister Jack Lynch as Minister without Portfolio in the Cabinet, was there but responsible as Minister of Economic Planning and Development and has held this office until the assumption of office of Lynch's successor, Charles J. Haughey on 11. December 1979.

But Haughey appointed him on 9 March 1982 Minister of Education in his second rule. However, O'Donoghue resigned before the end of Haugheys tenure on October 6th 1982.

After retiring from the House of Commons from 1983 to 1987 he was a member of the Senate ( Seanad Eireann ) and represented there, the group administration. In 1987, he opted not to run again for the Senate and resumed his teaching career as a professor of economics at.

Last time was Martin O'Donoghue between 1998 and April 2008, Director of the Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland ( Banc Ceannais agus na hÉireann Udaras Seirbhísí Airgeadais ), the Irish central bank and financial market supervision.
