John P. Wilson

John Patrick Wilson (Irish Seán Pádraig Mac Uilliam; born July 8, 1923, County Cavan, † 9 July 2007) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician, Deputy Prime Minister ( Tánaiste ) and Minister several times.

Biography

Wilson was appointed to a government in 1977 by Prime Minister Jack Lynch for the first time as Minister of Education and held that post under Lynch's successor, Charles Haughey to the electoral defeat of Fianna Fáil on 30 June 1981 from. In brief the Cabinet of Haughey, he was later on March 9 to December 14, 1982 Minister of Post, Telegraph and transport.

After the election victory of Fianna Fáil in the general election in 1987 he was the third Cabinet Haughey on March 10, 1987 First Minister of Tourism and Transport. In a cabinet reshuffle, he was then Secretary of the Navy in 1989 and held that post until 1992. As at 31 October 1990 Brian Lenihan senior Deputy Prime Minister ( Tánaiste ) withdrew from the government because it had nominated his party as a candidate for the office of President of Ireland, Wilson was also Deputy Prime Minister in the Cabinet Haughey.

After Haughey had passed to Albert Reynolds, the Office of the Prime Minister on 11 February 1992, he took over under this cabinet formation, the Minister of Defense and the Office of the Minister of the Irish-speaking areas ( Gaeltacht ) and still retained the office of the Deputy Prime Minister. January 12, 1993 Wilson resigned from the Cabinet.
