Charlie McCreevy

Charlie McCreevy [ tʃɑɹli məkɹi ː vi] (Irish Cathal Mac Riabhaigh, born September 30, 1949 in Sallins, County Kildare, Ireland) is an Irish politician and former European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services.

Policy

He is a member of the Fianna Fáil party and has represented for this since 1977, the constituency of Kildare or Kildare North in the lower house of the Irish Parliament ( Dáil Éireann ). In February 1992, McCreevy Minister for Social Affairs of Ireland and in January of the following year Minister of Trade and Tourism (until December 1994). Between 1995 and 1997 he was the spokesman of his party for financial issues.

From June 1997 to September 2004 was McCreevy Finance Minister under Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Bertie Ahern in the coalition government of Fianna Fáil with the liberal Progressive Democrats, also a member of the ECOFIN Council and he held at the time of the Irish EU Presidency chaired.

From 2004 to 2010 he served as a member of the EU Commission for Internal Market and Services.
