Piero Malvestiti
Piero ( Peter ) Malvestiti ( born June 26, 1899 in Apiro, Macerata Province, † November 5, 1964 in Milan ) was an Italian politician. He has held several ministerial posts in the Italian Government and was Commissioner of the European Economic Community and President of the European Coal and Steel Community.
Party
He was in 1942 one of the founders of the Christian Democratic Party of Italy, when he made his Movimento d' Azione Guelfo united with the Italian People's Party.
Italian government
On October 25, 1947, he was Secretary to the Minister of Finance of the fourth Italian government of Alcide De Gasperi until 1948. Then he was in the fifth and sixth government of De Gasperi Under Secretary to the Treasury until 1951. From 1948 to 1958 he belonged to the Camera dei deputati to.
From 1951 to 1953, he was from 1953 to 1954 Commerce and Industry Minister in the government of Alcide De Gasperi, Minister of Transport and in the government Giuseppe Pella.
EEC / ECSC
In January 1958 he was one of the Italian members of the EEC Commission Hallstein. His main area of responsibility was the internal market. He was a member of the working groups of the main areas of responsibility Economic and Financial Affairs and Transport, he was also Vice- President. In September 1959, he resigned from his office, and was succeeded by Giuseppe Caron, because Malvestiti became president of the European Coal and Steel Commission Malvestiti. He was president until November 1963.
Malvestiti died 1964. There are in Milan a street named Via Piero Malvestiti.
