Masnedø

Masnedø is a Danish island in the Storstrømmen between Zealand and Falster in Vordingborg. The strait between Masnedø Zealand and is called Masnedsund. The Storstrømsbroen connects Falster and Masnedø that Masnedsund Bridge Masnedø and Sjælland. Across the island and over the two bridges leading the railway and the Sekundærrute 153 between Zealand and Falster. The island is 1.68 km ² and has 129 inhabitants (1 January 2013). The island is part of the parish community (Danish: Sogn ) Vordingborg Sogn, which belonged to the Danish municipal reform of 1970 Harde Barse Herred in the former Præstø office, then to Vordingborg municipality in the former Storstrøms office, with the next Danish municipal reform of 2007 extended the vordingborg commune in the region Sjælland opened.

1912-1915 the Masnedø Fort was built to protect the connection between Zealand and Falster on the island. When Germany occupied Denmark on 9 April 1940, the world's first attack with Paratroopers took place here to take the bridges and secure. The fort was guarded but only three Danish soldiers and not ready to fight. In 1952 the fort was used only as a warehouse and 1973 it was evacuated by the military. Today the fort is open to the public and there were already there art exhibitions and a rock festival.
