Masonic manuscripts

The Regius Manuscript is the oldest and probably dating from the 1390 transcript of the rules Steinmetz brotherhoods. It is also called " Maurerisches poem " or " Halliwell manuscript " because it was published in 1840 by literary historian James Orchard Halliwell - Phillipps.

The manuscript is a poem that consists of 794 pairs of rhyming verses written in Middle English language. Its purpose was the young artisans closer to the rules and obligations of brotherhood and to facilitate memorizing those.

Interestingly, this manuscript of Freemasonry, which relies in its origin to the mason brotherhoods.

An excited by Karl Christian Kanis Gretschel translation into German was published in 1842 by Margrave Hermann.
